The suit of Wands: spark, drive, and staying power

Wands is the fire suit, shared in astrology with Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, and it holds the deck’s energy for doing things. It’s the hobby you start at midnight, the group trip you somehow end up organizing, the idea you can’t stop talking about. Wands covers the pleasure and the purpose both: why something lights you up, and what it takes to keep it lit.

If Wands crowd a spread, energy is the story: what’s drawing you, and how fast you’re moving toward it.

From spark to pursuit

Three cards, three ways of meeting a beginning. The Ace of Wands is the urge itself, a hand closing firmly around a wand that’s still putting out small shoots and leaves. The Page of Wands takes that urge somewhere unfamiliar, just to see. The Knight of Wands commits and goes. Spark, exploration, pursuit: three ways a beginning can feel.

Celebrate what came together

The Four of Wands is the welcome-home card. Two figures smile beneath a flower garland strung between four posts. The celebration counts, and so does what holds it up: the posts, the people, the steadiness that makes a gathering possible. Reversed, a milestone may be marked quietly, in a small circle or over a single meal, and it still counts.

Confidence that brings people in

The Queen of Wands brings warmth and independence to whatever has caught the Queen’s interest, and other people tend to follow it into the room. The King of Wands gives a good idea a direction and leaves space for everyone else’s contribution. Neither card needs a title or a particular personality; you can be either one at a dinner party.

When the fire runs wrong

Reversed, each Wands court card goes sideways in its own way, and it helps to name which one you’re looking at. The Knight reversed is urgency outrunning the reason you started. The Queen reversed is interest steered by comparison or applause. The King reversed is conviction so loud there’s no space left for anyone else’s idea.
